12 Days of Christmas in July, and Quilt-Along, Day 5!

Hi, all!

Wow!  Four days of great projects so far - are you inspired yet?  I know I am, and my "bucket list" has gotten a lot longer!  But wait - - - there's more!!

Today we are being tempted by Lara of Buzzin' Bumble.  Now, if you haven't already heard or seen all the great projects that were floating around bogland, Lara wrote a book this year called Crafted Appliqué.  A whole new method for appliqué, so much fun, and definitely worth checking out!  I'm excited to see what Lara has for us today, and I hope you are too!

And then there's Soma, who blogs at Whims and Fancies.  Soma is a really good photographer, and shares her love of photography with us on her blog.  She has some great tips for taking better pictures, and creatively uses her subjects in her quilting on occasion!  She has some fun projects for crafting with kids for us today - perfect if you have littles running around needing something to do during the holidays!

Go check them out and then come back for the next step in the quilt-along - I'll wait!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*

(Just to keep our eye on the prize!)

Time to square up the outer star HSTs (red on the EQ7 diagram).  This can get kind of boring, so put on an audiobook or some good music and let's get cracking!

Lay an HST on your cutting mat.  You will be squaring up your blocks to 4.5", so take your template and place the 1" markings in the upper corner and line up the diagonal line on the template with you seam. Shift the template as needed so that the 4.5" square marking is completely within your block and the diagonal is still lined up.  Trim the right and top sides of your block.

Now lift off the template and turn your block around. Lay the template back on the block, this time lining up the 4.5" square markings with the bottom left corner of your block.  Trim off the top and right sides once again.  And you HST is now complete and ready to put into your quilt top. Repeat until all 96 HSTs are trimmed. Set aside for later assembly.

Tomorrow we'll start assembling the components for the blocks.  See you then!

Hugs!

Sarah

    1. My apologies - the link has been updated to link directly to her post for the hop. The original link worked from my computer, but you are the second person to tell me it wasn't working, so I changed it. Hopefully it will work now!
